Chablis Domaine Bessin 2023
Jean-Claude Bessin is one of the most respected producers in Chablis, known for his artisanal and patient winemaking rooted in the traditions of northern Burgundy. Together with his wife Evelyne, he tends the vineyards with a focus on balance—between the life of the soil, the vine, and the ever-unpredictable "sky" that governs each vintage.
Each plot is vinified separately, a practice that allows Jean-Claude to highlight the distinct identity of every micro-terroir. The result is a pure, precise, and vibrant Chablis, shaped by years of careful, thoughtful work in the vineyard and cellar.
The grapes come from 18 to 40-year-old vines and are harvested slightly late to achieve full aromatic maturity. After both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, the wine is aged for around 15 months in vats and old barrels, developing complexity and elegance.
Domaine Bessin
Jean-Claude and his wife Evelyne handle the vine in the respect of tradition. The philosophy is to try to establish a balance between the life of the soil, the vineyard and its aleatory components. All the parcels are vinified separately. In addition to giving Jean-Claude greater elasticity in the cellar, this gives him a better understanding of the different territories. making wines of terroir is a long-term work, a work to be done with Carthusian patience year after year in order to fill the defects of understanding the territory, the environment surrounding it and its fruits. And when vineyards are planted on large soils, waiting always rewards sacrifices. Jean-Claude has a formidable tuft in the sleeve: old vineyards.
