Saumur Champigny Clos Rougeard 2018
All the nobility of the Loire, cradle of French viticulture, is therefore found in this discrete estate of the Foucault family, located in the village of Chacé, between Tours and Angers. The great strength of this estate of just 10 hectares is to have never followed the fashion and so with clayey-calcareous soils that have never known the slightest drop of herbicide nor the minimum chemical fertilizer, the wines of the Clos Rougeard express a minerality and a rare complexity, giving true meaning to the concept of terroir. The yields have always been less than 40 hectoliters per hectare, or about 6 clusters per vineyard foot. The other specificity of the Clos Rougeard is to have perpetuated the tradition of the localities, or of the «climat». Each of these individual terroir gives a unique and distinctive wine that is grown separately, like this Cabernet franc in purity.
Clos Rougeard
The Foucault pendulum marks the times of another era. That's where the rhythm of wine was not always dictated by the market, where the bottles came out of the cellar when the "vigneron" estimated the end of refinement: 18, 24, 30 months ... Charly and Nady know when their - Champigny's reds Bréze's white - are ready, they rarely come out of their cellar. When the year allows, the reds are divided around three cuvée, two of which come from specific vineyards: "Les Poyeux", generous and ripe but tighter in Tannins of "Le Bourg", sleek and elegant. Both have a life, a natural breath, an altruism that makes them neighbors, friendly in youth, and they give rise to an unknown shiver. "Le Bourg" confirms its mythical status for wealth, for the embroidery of an elegant wood, for the fineness of tannins, exceptional. At the top with the immortals
