The Kerpen family has been producing Rieslings for centuries. Martin Kerpen, owner and winemaker, has been running the company with his wife Celia since 1988. The soil consists of Devonian stones that give the wine its characteristic minerality. All the vineyards face south and are terraced, which requires manual work. In some areas of the Moselle the slope of the vineyards exceeds 70%. Most of the land (55%) lies on the Wehlener Sonnenuhr. This steep rocky vineyard produces some of the most elegant and sophisticated wines in the world. Its gray stones give the wine a fresh and delicate acidity that perfectly balances the peach aromas. Wehelener Sonnenhur wines are pleasant in their youth, but their aging potential can be counted over decades. Other plots are in the Graacher Himmelreich and in the Graacher Domprobst (35%). Positioned between its famous neighbors - the Bernkasteler Doctor and the Wehlener Sonnenhur - the Domprobst combines the elegance of Wehlen with the rustic power of Bernkastel. Graach wines are always well structured and need some time to bring out their great personality. Minor parts are grown in the Bernkasteler Bratenhöfchen and in the Bernkasteler Johannisbrünnchen (10%). Many lands have ungrafted vines and yields are kept low. The meticulous selection of the healthiest and ripest grapes contributes significantly to the quality. Each vineyard is welcomed separately to reflect the particular style of the individual territory. All vinifications are carried out in old barrels in the underground cellar. To maintain freshness, fermentation is slowed down by careful temperature control and filtering is minimal. Martin believes in "reductive" winemaking. The research is oriented towards clean, fresh and elegant wines with the typical minerality always present. The estate is particularly known for its dry wines.

Kerpen is a member of the Bernkasteler Ring, an old producer company in the Moselle, which, through reduced yields, pursues the highest possible quality. "Martin Kerpen Riesling shows a clear design: they are all very clean and tend to become something nice and elegant with the passing of years, thanks to a nice acidity.
