The steep hill of Prälat (Prelate) runs along the left bank of the Moselle right in front of the village of Erden on the opposite side. The vineyard rests on strong slopes that make the vineyard's work very tough and tiring, 2 hectares perfectly facing south, a condition necessary to allow the grapes to reach the right maturation. It stretches in the lower part of the hill following the course of the river at a height of between 110 and 200 meters. The red slate that forms its soil has a special ability to hold the heat of the rays reflected by the water, making this microclimate the warmest of the entire Moselle. Here the ripening of Riesling is perfect in every vintage, for this reason are produced exclusively wines of the Auslese type with "noble mold" attacks in the best vintages, wines called Auslese GoldKapsel.
Three Senses
The color is golden and of beautiful intensity and luster. The first sensation on the nose is dominated by the freshness of its bouquet. There is yes a trace of hydrocarbon, which fading gives way to nuances of quince, grapefruit, acacia honey, dried flowers and tangerine. The palate is linear, lively, flooded with a trail of freshness that accompanies us into a subtle finish characterized by an intriguing succession of sweet-sour sensations and a definite minerality.

Dr. Loosen

Dr. Loosen

Dr.Loosen has been owned by the family for more than 200 years. When Ernst Loosen took control  of it in 1988, he realized that with free standing vines with an average age of 60 years  in the most vineyards in central Moselle, he had the raw material to create stunningly intense
and world-class wines. To do this, Ernst drastically reduced the harvest and decided to use only a  moderate amount of organic fertilizer. All six of the major vineyards of the Dr.Loosen company were classified as "Grand Cru" in the Prussian classification dated 1868. It was before the  Burgundy classification! On steep slopes and with south exposure of the Moselle, the proximity of the river creates an ideal microclimate for Riesling. vines have an ideal exposure  to the sun to achieve perfect maturation. Fresh nights, even in the summer, retain the characteristic acidity of the grape, which is essential for a clean and alive Riesling. The river  reflects the sun's rays and retains the heat helping the grapes ripe and protecting the vines from the frosts. The rocky slate soil and the numerous emerging rocks keep the heat
of the day and ensure full maturation. A thin surface layer forces the vines to dig deep into the soil  to find nutrients, this vines thus produce intense minerals and vibrant wines.  Dr.Loosen's vines are now 60 years old and are still on their free foot. Old vineyards naturally produce smaller crops with greater concentration and greater complexity.
