This precipitously steep and rocky vineyard, Wehlener Sonnenuhr yields some of the most elegant and sophisticated white wines in the world. It has very light soil and the purest blue slate of any Mosel vineyard. This gives the wine a lively minerality and a delicate, crisp acidity that perfectly balances the bright flavors of white peach and lemon. It’s an aristocratic and charming wine that dances gracefully on the palate.

Three Senses
Yellow in color with greenish highlights it releases clear notes of apricot, honey, stone and lemon minerals. On the nose the wine is pure, fresh and generous. A high acidity well integrated into the wine gives harmony to the sweetness released by the sugar.

Dr. Loosen

Dr. Loosen

Dr.Loosen has been owned by the family for more than 200 years. When Ernst Loosen took control  of it in 1988, he realized that with free standing vines with an average age of 60 years  in the most vineyards in central Moselle, he had the raw material to create stunningly intense
and world-class wines. To do this, Ernst drastically reduced the harvest and decided to use only a  moderate amount of organic fertilizer. All six of the major vineyards of the Dr.Loosen company were classified as "Grand Cru" in the Prussian classification dated 1868. It was before the  Burgundy classification! On steep slopes and with south exposure of the Moselle, the proximity of the river creates an ideal microclimate for Riesling. vines have an ideal exposure  to the sun to achieve perfect maturation. Fresh nights, even in the summer, retain the characteristic acidity of the grape, which is essential for a clean and alive Riesling. The river  reflects the sun's rays and retains the heat helping the grapes ripe and protecting the vines from the frosts. The rocky slate soil and the numerous emerging rocks keep the heat
of the day and ensure full maturation. A thin surface layer forces the vines to dig deep into the soil  to find nutrients, this vines thus produce intense minerals and vibrant wines.  Dr.Loosen's vines are now 60 years old and are still on their free foot. Old vineyards naturally produce smaller crops with greater concentration and greater complexity.
