Chateau Certan de May Pomerol 2014
Château Certan de May is a Pomerol estate which takes its name from a Scottish family who settled in Pomerol in the 17th century. It is now owned by Odette Barreau-Badar and is located east of the appellation, on the plateau of the Pomerol between Vieux-Chateaux Certan and Pétrus, and directly opposite Le Pin. The vines of Certan de May (Merlot 70%, Cabernet Franc 25%, Cabernet Sauvignon 5%) have an average age of 45 years and lie on sandy gravel soils, supported by a hard clay subsoil. The fermentation lasts 4-6 weeks in stainless steel, followed by a maceration for up to a month before 16 months of aging in oak, 40% new.
Vieux Chateau Certan
Vieux Château Certan is one of the oldest known growths in Pomerol.
In 1924, Georges Thienpont, a Flemish wine merchant, purchased the property. This marked the beginning of the family’s presence in the Bordeaux region.
Vieux Château Certan is the result of a very special eco-system in which the soil, the vines and the climate blend harmoniously together to produce exceptional wine.
As the culmination of long years of experience and observation, the Vieux Château Certan cellars combine the best of tradition with today’s technicity and precision.
The vinifications are carried out in temperature-controlled oak vats. They regulate them at 28°C to ensure a gentle, measured extraction.
Inside the cellars, materials and equipment have been chosen with meticulous care in order to provide the best possible conditions for both the wine and the
environment.
