Verdicchio Superiore Colle Jano 2022
Jano is a Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi born from the project of recovery of a small historic vineyard with an average age of 50 years populated by ancient varieties and managed without the use of synthetic chemicals. Giulia and Filippo are the actors of this project; start from the selection of the best grapes, then make the vinification through spontaneous fermentation and aging sur lies for 6 months. The result is a clean, healthy and harmonious wine. A representation of terroir.
Colle Jano
Filippo and Giulia, husband and wife and owners of the Colle Jano winery, after several work experiences abroad between Holland and Canada, engaged in environmental and geological research, fell madly in love with this place where balance reigns, in particular with 3 historical Verdicchio vineyards for a total of 3 hectares, 50 years old, which they decided to purchase in 2016, determined from the outset to recover and valorise this ancient variety of Verdicchio.
The first vintage, therefore, was produced with the 2017 harvest, where only 2000 bottles were produced, and it immediately revealed itself to be a genuine and forthright expression of terroir.
We stroll between the rows of this vineyard, bewitched by the panorama that opens up before us, we are at the central base of the splendid natural amphitheatre delineated by the so-called 'timeless villages': Cupramontana, Monte Roberto, Castelbellino, San Paolo and Staffolo. We can see the first timid fruits and finally talk to Filippo, a hydrogeologist in Canada for four years, about soil and terroir.
