The Pajè vineyard in Barbaresco overlooks the Tanaro River with south-west exposure. Its composition mainly of calcareous marl makes this cru unique. The Roagna estate extends for 1.83 hectares with vineyards of an average age of 50 years. The Roagna family decides to exalt this cru producing very few bottles that are the result of a manual harvest of the grapes, vinification with indigenous yeasts, submerged cap maceration for at least two months and subsequent aging for 5 years in neutral oak barrels.
The Paje vineyard by morphological matter, highlights the femininity of nebbiolo. The depth of a 30-year-old vineyard is not the same as 50-year-old vines. But the vintage plays its key role and makes this wine invaluable. Ruby red in color, slightly garnet, it has an elegant, inviting nose. It fans out red fruits and violets, underbrush, chocolate, black spices. Very feminine shows more integrated and very dense tannins. Just the right proportion between youthful rusticity and persuasive future.
Roagna
Alfredo Roagna and his young son Luca are old-time vintners, so reserved and reluctant to relationships as they are extremely passionate about their work. They manage 15 hectares of vineyards divided between Barbaresco and Castiglione Falletto. The scrupulous dedication to the vineyard, with old vines of seventy years, translates into wines closely linked to tradition, vinified with very long macerations, from 30 days for Dolcetto to 90 for Nebbiolo. They are wines that preserve great naturalness, expressive intensity and tonicity of the remarkable fruit, it can present some grammatical uncertainty because of the absence of any industrial homogenization technique. Sumptuous the keeping and evolution over time.
