Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Barbischio Maurizio Alongi 2021
Vigna di Barbischio consists of two plots of land, for a total area of 1 hectare, are 28, 85 centiares, all falling within the Chianti Classico denomination.
The vineyards, located at about 435 meters above sea level, with a predominant exposure to the south, are characterized by a peculiarity, almost unique: the average age of the plants
which is around thirty years old, with many strains exceeding forty. The main grape variety is Sangiovese, accompanied, as the ancient formula of Chianti says, by other complementary varieties such as black Malvasia, which gives color and roundness and Canaiolo capable of enriching the aromatic heritage of the blend.
The skins in contact with the must are left without the stalks then short manual replacements for 14 days follow, a soft pressing of the marc and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. Maturation in new French oak tonneaux (15%) and used (85%) lasts for just over a year; aging for at least 10 months in the bottle.
Maurizio Alongi
The deep love for the Chiantigiano territory and for the matured Chianti Classico wine Maurizio Alongi has decided to make a single wine, from a single vineyard, from a traditional blend, to follow an old dream of his, demonstrating to the full to all the magnificent potentialities of his land. This project was carried out after a long research, lasting years, between Gaiole, Radda and Castellina. In these places a winter afternoon the meeting took place with two small vineyards, in Barbischio, a few kilometers from Gaiole in Chianti. We are in the uncontaminated ridge of the Chianti Mountains, which separates the Chianti from the Val d’Arno basin, where the Macigno formation, consisting mainly of sandstone rocks, has given rise to particularly loose sandy soils with steep slopes and excellent exposure. The two plots are surrounded by extensive forests dominated by oak, oak and chestnut trees, which contribute to mitigating climate excesses and making the environment almost untouched.
Maurizio Alongi has been working as a winemaker for almost thirty years, helping others to express themselves through their wines. His training and professional growth is closely linked to the Sienese Chianti, although in recent years he has traveled far and wide across Italy, confronting many vines and meeting many people out of the ordinary. Its centerpiece is its roots and its beating heart are Siena and Gaiole in Chianti, where he lived for years. He decided to make a single wine, from a single vineyard, from a traditional grape variety, to follow an old dream of his, demonstrating to the full to all the magnificent potentialities of his land.
