Vallée du Rhone wines
The Vallée du Rhone is cut in two by the river of the same name, Rhône. In the northern Vallée du Rhone, the main grape variety is Syrah and the important appellations of Côte-Rôtie, Château-Grillet, Condrieu, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, St.-Peray, Saint Joseph have contributed to the fame of this area.
The southern Vallée du Rhone is mainly cultivated with Mouvedre, Grenache with the appellations Côtes-du-Rhône, Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages, Rasteau, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Beaumes-de-Venise, Lirac e Tavel.
In contrast to the northern area, where the wines consist exclusively of pure Syrah, in the southern part, several grapes are blended, as is the case for Châteauneuf du Pape, obtained by blending 13 grapes of both white and red grapes.
The most cultivated white grape varieties are Ugni Blanc, Viognier, Clairette, Grenache blanc, Marsanne, Muscat, Roussanne...
Among the dark grapes Carignan, Cinsaut, Grenache Noir, Muovere, Syrah...
