Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Chateau Troplong Mondot 2014
Chateau Troplong Mondot is one of the most important and celebrated Premiers Grands Crus Classés in Saint Emilion. Around the Chateau extend 30 hectares of vineyards, located on the top of the hill just in front of the Municipality of Saint Emilion. The Chateau dates back to the 17th century, born from the conjunction between the Mondot Edouard Troplong family. Alexandre Valette, a wine merchant in Paris took over in the early 20th century, staying true to the great name the Chateau acquired for its great wines. Today the property belongs to Xavier and Christine Pariente. The Chateau Troplong Mondot produces this Grand Cru Classé every year with a circulation of about 130,000 bottles.
The vines have an average age of 40 years. The thick limestone rock under the fatty clay layer and the water table present in the subsoil combine to provide the old vines with the necessary fertility for great vintages. Clayey-calcareous soil, where sedimentary fragments of flint and limestone are mixed. 90% Merlot Noir blend together with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
