Carignano del Sulcis Riserva Seruci Enrico Esu 2018
Seruci is the Carignano in purity from the first vineyard planted in 1958, with sapling and ungrafted foot. Manual harvest in crates and spontaneous fermentation in small open vats without temperature control. Manual punching down of the cap and maceration for 15 days. It takes 12 months for aging in tonneaux. It arrives in the bottle not clarified and unfiltered.
Enrico Esu
Enrico Esu follows in the footsteps of his father Silvio, who in 1958 decided to plant 2.5 hectares of Carignano in the municipality of Carbonia. We are in south-west Sardinia, in the Sulcis area, a land of coal, mines and Carignano. The planting technique is the traditional one of Sulcis, "alberello" with narrow rows and high density, about 6,000 plants per hectare. From 1968 to 2004, another 8 hectares will be planted, again on mass selection of the cuttings. All the plants are ungrafted, on a sandy soil and with the cork oaks that surround the vineyards, letting the mistral filter through.
It is only since 2013 that Enrico Esu starts producing on his own with the aim of giving us a traditional Carignano, born from great manual work and using only sulfur and copper. Fermentations are spontaneous with macerations depending on the vintage which last about 10-12 days. Decanted and decanted, the wine ages in steel or oak depending on the type. Bottled by hand in the cellar, all the reds are Doc since 2015.
"Our goal is to preserve the tradition that distinguishes our Carignano vine: Alberello su Sabbia a Piede Franco."
