The south-west is one of the oldest wine-growing areas in France, but has taken a back seat compared to areas that have become internationally known. At the foot of the Pyrenees, the morphology is the most varied, such as the composition of the soils and the various microclimates.
The Jurancon maintains an incredible charm between calm and energy, interspersing the soft hills with sunflower fields, woods and vineyards. Fortunately, since the 1980s, some producers have resumed cultivating local varieties capable of giving life to extremely pleasant and profound wines, capable of bringing the area back to the glories of the past.
Chateau Lafitte
Chateau Lafitte is an estate that dates back to the 14th century, but it is the winery created in 2018 that is the heart of wine production. Equipped with a photovoltaic roof and rainwater collection, it is built underground and uses the Canadian well for natural freshness. Made at different levels, it uses gravity to move the wine during the processing stages. The extreme cleanliness allows you to work in ideal environments for biodynamic production. The vineyards cover 5 hectares between Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng, all converted to biodynamic. The soils are alive, the air clean and the grapes healthy, an excellent starting point for exceptional wines. Antoine is the soul of the winery, a serious and passionate winemaker, committed to protecting the environment. He has been following the winery since 2012 and has given it new vital energy.
