Riesling Graacher Himmelreich Spatlese Willy Schaefer 2023
Graacher Himmelreich surrounds the Dompropst site and is also classified as VDP.Grosse Lage®. Well protected from wind and frost, it constantly receives warmth from the slate soil. This contributes to a slow, uniform and complete ripening of the grapes and, at the same time, the numerous underground aquifers ensure optimal natural care for the vines.
Himmelreich offers wines with a more ready aromatic profile, set on floral bases that are very pleasant to drink right from the start, but not unsuitable for long ageing, quite the contrary! Precisely because of their deep minerality and a finish of lively fruity acidity, Himmelreich Rieslings tend to be extremely silky and charming, and a lingering note of citrus, white and yellow peaches remains on the palate.
Willi Schaefer - Graach an der Mosel
You can find this family estate exactly in the center of Graacher. Estate that is considered one of the oldest in the wine business of the area. There are records of the Schaefer family being involved in the wine business since the 12th century. Coming to more recent times, however, we see Christoph Schaefer succeeding his father along with his wife in 2015. The vineyards are about 5 hectares starting just above the village hills. Himmelreich and Domprobst are the largest plots with then a small parcel in the Wehlener Sonnenuhr. The approach is ultra-traditional with a focus on selecting the best grapes with several harvesting steps during the harvest. Each individual parcel is then vinified separately in lfoudres. Obviously very old wood that accompany the life of the wines until bottling. The style of the Schaefer wines is fine, elegant, precise and pure. The wines have great aging potential.
