You can find just few Chiavennasca like this. A mix of strength and elegance for a wine that fascinates in every component. Harvest started and ended October 1, 2022 in the old vineyards of Poggiridenti, Montagna in Valtellina at about 450/490 meters above sea level in organic regime. 4500 bottles in the 2022 vintage. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel with 70% whole cluster and the remaining 30% destemmed and not crushed. 15-day maceration with two punching-downs per day. Brief rest in stainless steel with fine lees and then in tonneaux for 16 months. The wine is then bottled without clarification or filtration.

Three Senses
A little bit Burgundy, a little bit Rhone, but above all Valtellina, the most authentic one. The wine comes across as almost shy, with that transparency typical of the grape variety. Putting the nose on it, however, the shyness seems to be a thing of the past. Explosion of red fruits, slightly wilted flowers and that touch of balsamicity that gives it an extra boost. In the mouth the wine is a teenager with nice acidity that counteracts the well-perceptible structure. A wine to drink, but one that if you know how to be patient for some time will give you great satisfaction.

Marco Ferrari - Montagna in Valtellina

cantina marco ferrari

A little bit Burgundy, a little bit Rhone, Marco Ferrari is a talented winemaker capable of producing magical alpine wines in the vertiginous vineyards of Valtellina, Lombardy. Before founding his own company in 2019, Marco gained extensive experience with renowned winemakers such as AR.PE.PE and in the northern Rhone Valley with renowned winemakers such as Pierre Gonon and Thierry Allemand.

Marco Ferrari's estate is situated on the typical steep stone terraces of Valtellina, ideal for growing Nebbiolo Chiavennasca, the region's emblematic grape variety. Marco Ferrari practices organic viticulture and works entirely by hand, respecting nature and tradition. In the winery, Marco Ferrari takes a traditional, low-intervention approach, using indigenous yeasts and aging in used wood to preserve the aromas of his wines.

Marco cultivates nearly two hectares of vineyards, particularly in the most renowned cru Inferno and Sassella. These plots are renowned for their mineral-rich soils and ideal exposure, which allow for high quality grapes. Marco's wines stand out for their precision, floral profile and minerality, typical characteristics of Nebbiolo from Valtellina.
