The Vaillé family produces one of the best Languedoc wines on the terroir above the village of Aniane, on several garrigue plots in the Arboussas massif, in a place called Tourtou. Located at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres on a windy massif, the Arboussas is a garrigue of white oaks and strawberry trees, resting on a slab of lacustrine limestone, as white as a salt desert. The grape blend is predominantly Syrah and Mourvèdre, with around 20% Cabernet-Sauvignon and a little Counoise. The presence of Counoise means that this wine has always been described as a ‘vin de pays’ and is not included in the Coteaux du Languedoc AOC. It is an exceptional Languedoc with a hint of northern Rhône.

Three Senses
The wine has a dense garnet red color with violet hues. The olfactory impact is very intense, pleasant and complex. An elegant bouquet of black fruits such as cherry, black currant and blackberry, followed by spices and hints of licorice. On the palate, the wine opens with a direct attack, then gains volume, always with the elegance characteristic of the estate's wines. The tannins are elegant, fine and coated with a beautiful intensity of black fruits and spices.

Domaine De La Grange Des Peres - Aniane

winery domaine de la grange des peres

La Grange des Pères is part of that small circle of wines to which every true wine lover aspires and which he or she would like to have tasted at least once in a lifetime, an almost mythical wine, such is its fame. Founded in 1989, La Grange des Pères is today the most highly regarded Domaine in the Languedoc. Located in the village of Aniane, the estate is now managed by Bernard Vaillé, who has decided to work his land in the Hérault of the Languedoc. Laurent Vaillé, Bernard's predecessor, decided from the outset to focus on low yields (20 hectolitres per hectare) for an annual production of just over 50,000 bottles. Success has been dazzling since 1992, the first vintage produced. The wines are of exemplary consistency and age admirably. Situated in the terroir of Aniane, on the heights of the Arboussas massif, the vineyards with a total area of 11 hectares literally ‘bathe’ in an ocean of pebbles. The red wine is predominantly Syrah and Mourvèdre, with about 20% Cabernet-Sauvignon and a little Counoise. As for the rare white, it is blended with Roussanne, Marsanne, Chardonnay and Gros Manseng. For more than 20 years, the Vaille family has known how to tame this very special terroir and, with all the humility that characterises them, they produce singular and captivating works of art, vintage after vintage. A sprig of thyme and a bay leaf are placed in each case of wine, evoking in this way the beautiful, arid terroir from which these wines come.
