The Langhe Nebbiolo DOC is not a failed Barbaresco, but rather the result of a deliberate harvest choice. The vineyards are located in Neive, with a southwest exposure at about 280–300 meters above sea level. The soils are clay-sandy. It is made from grapes of younger vines, grown on richer soils. Fermentation and subsequent maceration take place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 28–30°C. The wine is aged in large wooden barrels, followed by a few months in the bottle before release. Harmonious and well-balanced, with an alcohol component and tannins in perfect equilibrium.
Right from the first glance, one is struck by the intensity of the wine’s ruby red color. On the nose, it reveals fresh aromas of red fruits with subtle herbal nuances. The tannins are well-balanced and, combined with a lively acidity, they continuously invite another sip.
Piero Busso - Neive
The company was founded in 1948 by Guido, father of Piero. As the seasons passed, the vision for wine became increasingly precise. Following Guido’s premature passing in the late 1970s, Piero Busso, deeply connected to this land, took over the winery and, in 1982, produced the first bottle of Barbaresco Albesani. It was an important step, defining the philosophy that would guide production from that moment on.
Respect for the land has always been a fundamental principle, going beyond the organic certification obtained: no herbicides or chemical products, sustainable treatments, and a green approach long before environmental awareness became widespread. There is no excessive intervention on the plants—trimming only in exceptional cases, minimal and targeted thinning. Only natural compounds are used. Low, very low environmental impact.
The company remains a family-run business: Piero, his wife Lucia, and their children Pierguido and Emanuela take care of everything—from vineyard work to harvest, from winemaking to sales. The estate, located in Neive, consists of 10 hectares of vineyards. It would be pointless to pay great attention to the vine’s fruit at every stage of its maturation, only to over-intervene in the winery. For this reason, the Busso family has chosen to make wine as it was done in the past, with minimal technology and a delicate touch. Each bottle will have its own voice. Because wine is alive, ever-changing, and different with every vintage. The goal is to preserve the small differences, allowing the wine to express notes that make it as authentic as possible.
