Tanca Gioia Carloforte srl Soc. Agr. - Carloforte
U-Tabarka is a project born during a sailboat by a group of friends who have abandoned the comforts to devote themselves to the love for the earth. The name is a tribute to the Tunisian island, once under Genoese control, from which many of the fishermen come when they were forced to leave it. The farm has about 10 hectares of vineyards on the island of S.Pietro, Sardinia. Of volcanic origin and under steady winds, ranging from light breeze to strong maestral, the island is rich in completely natural areas that are now a must stop for many species of migratory birds, including pink flamingos. The vineyards base their roots on sandy and dry soils, which allows the use of ungrafted grapes for extreme quality. Marine wind and sandy soil give a character with steady minerality and sapidity. Vineyard policy is neat, minimizing human intervention, using traditional treatments and allowing irrigation only when strictly necessary. Each vintage is the fruit of the sun, the wind and the rain that the plants have experienced and valued. Following this philosophy is also the choice to plant only native vines such as Carignano del Sulcis, Small Bovale, Aromatic Nasco, Calasetta Moscato and Vermentino di Sardegna. Each variety is thought and cultivated as a unique fruit.
