La Monacesca

La Monacesca

La Monacesca winery is located in the municipality of Matelica, in Contrada Monacesca, about 4 km from the town centre, along the state road leading to Fabriano. It has its legal and operational headquarters with storage and bottling in the municipality of Potenza Picena, also within the province of Macerata.
The area where they are located owes its name to the settlement, around the year 900 AD, A.D. of a small group of Benedictine monks of the Farfa order who, fleeing from northern Italy because of the Longobard persecutions, decided to settle in this hermitage and build a small church and a convent (today perfectly restored and part of the winery's hamlet): this splendid land took on the name "Monacesca" over time, which became the winery's trademark in 1966 when Casimiro Cifola purchased the estates and began planting the first vineyards and building the first wine cellar. The first production of Verdicchio di Matelica under their own brand name dates back to 1973, the starting point of an extraordinary adventure in which Casimiro was joined in 1982 by his son Aldo, the current patron of the company, with whose support they further increased their efforts to technically improve any qualitative aspect that would allow them to exalt the characteristics of their fantastic princely vine.
