Valturio
Azienda Agricola Valturio was founded in 2002 on the ambitious project of returning Montefeltro, a border region straddling the Marches, Tuscany and Romagna, to the production of high-level wine. The winemaking tradition of this region dates back to the Middle Ages, but the characteristics of the territory, impervious and difficult and the distance from the most important shopping centers, brought about its end in the nineteenth century.
The winery's history is one of perseverance, foresight and passion. It is the story of a major reclamation of land abandoned since the 1960s and the restoration of old terracing made with hoes. An ancient water source was rediscovered and it is used in the new wine cellar, an energy self-sufficient cellar thanks to the photovoltaic roof.
The vines chosen are those best suited to the terroir, Sangiovese for example, supplemented with some non-native varieties, such as Pinot Noir, to enhance the potential of the area.
Letting the vines make the wines, without adding chemical treatments but only with manual selection of the bunches when they are still green, so as not to alter a rich and balanced ecosystem that is still unaltered.
'Valturio, for us, is a dream come true. With our company and with our wine we have tried to give voice to a wine tradition, now forgotten, which dates back to the Renaissance, and to the history of Montefeltro. A story made of genius, tenacity, strength and culture.'
