Criante - Az. Agr. Bioviola - Alcamo

We are in Alcamo, in western Sicily. The vineyards are inland, at an altitude ranging from 300 to 600 metres, but they face the sea and receive its influence. On the other side, however, Mount Bonifato protects the vineyards from the most dangerous currents. This part of Sicily is extremely devoted to wine-growing, since the soils are fertile, consisting mainly of clay, enriched by sandy and calcareous parts.

The production, certified as organic since 1991, focuses mainly on indigenous grape varieties such as Catarratto and Perricone. But the Criante farm is not only viticulture. Criante is also the production of ancient grains from which flour is made, it is also the production of seasonal vegetables from which Aunt Giusy prepares preserves.

Both in the field and in the cellar, the aim is to create natural products, without chemical interventions, without the addition of selected yeasts, with spontaneous fermentation and without alterations.
Criante, or "He who creates", is constantly evolving, growing, always looking for new ideas and projects to realise.
